Frequently Asked Questions

How do we register as campers and for shifts? And when will we be able to do this?

You must first complete a new member form and pay camp dues. At that time you will begin receiving emails with everything pertaining to camp function and flow. We will have a master list for sign-ups closer to the event but in the mean time keep up to date on projects that happen all year long. We will be emailing registered campers a sign-up form code to enroll for shifts on playa. We have a master form that has different areas for volunteering – Bar, Interactive Events, Moop Sweep, Bathroom Trailer, Art Car. You will be required to sign-up for several shifts as we offer multiple events and gifts on playa. As always, if there is something that you don’t see on the list and think it would contribute to the betterment of our camp, please contact us so we can create a new description to allow you to contribute in the way that suits you best.

If you are arriving later in the week, you will still need to sign-up for the necessary number of shifts. All members will be required to help strike and moop camp before your own personal things.

What is Tweaker Tear Down? Is it required?

Tweaker Tear Down is performed the day the man burns at sunrise. All the resident party creatures who stayed up all night as well as people who get up early start putting away the communal camp area- this is actually a lot of fun. We listen to music, eat food so we don’t need to bring it home, and get the camp put away before it gets too hot out. Please don’t forget that Tweaker Tear Down follows the Leave No Trace principal and is important to implement all week long.

MOOP - what is that?

Moop is Matter Out Of Place. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF OUR WORK PLAN. Last year we received a Yellow/Red rating by BMOrg for our camp. We MUST improve this year or else we will jeopardize our standing for the future burns. We have  large community areas with lots of guests. Several times a day we will have MOOP teams that go across our entire camp. You are also responsible for MOOPing your personal camp space, and packing out ALL of your personal trash in addition to one bag of camp trash per person.

Do we have an electrical grid to hook our RVs/ShiftPods/Yurts into that is available for campers?

Our camp power grid is optional. It is something you can opt into at an additional cost. We put our money together to pay for the fuel maintenance and transportation of our generator. That being said, spots are limited and fill up every year. If the generator goes down it is not anyone’s fault as it is a split asset. If you are not on the power grid you can bring your own generator so long as it is quiet. You can bring a sound attenuated generator. Please be respectful of neighbors in our own camp as well as other adjacent camps.

What about Trailer Pump Out?

We cannot provide or guarantee pump out. New for 2024, we will be trying to schedule trailer pump outs and will contact you about a price. This will be optional if you want to try it out.

Will there be camp showers?

There is an air conditioned bathroom trailer with a shower, toilet and urinal. We pump out our own waste so we can be self reliant and on our own schedule. Do not put anything other than bodily fluids and toilet paper provided down the toilet. We use a grinder pump and it will shut down the bathroom for the entire camp. Please be respectful of the time you spend in the bathroom. Please no sex in the shower.

Water - what about the 1.5 gallons/day/per camper?

You must also provide this for yourself and bring it into BRC. We have looked into providing camp water.

Food - are meals provided?

We do not provide meals for campers as of now. We have several interactive events that involve food where you’re more than welcome to help yourself. We are also looking for volunteer teams to provide these meals for camp. If you like cooking and would like to place out a simple camp meal please contact us. Something easy that can be distributed to 70 people with little waste or trash. This could count as one of your major contributions to camp.

What do my camp dues pay for? How is our budget planned for Nipple Crime?

Nipple Crime is a registered non-profit organization made up of volunteers - we do not pay ourselves for the work we do year-round or pre-playa. We raise our funds in three ways: donations, fundraisers, and dues. Donations and dues pay for all of our camp infrastructure, art car, bar, kitchen, lounge area, cast of building, transportation, storage, insurance,  interactive events and gifts. We do not pay anyone. We are all volunteers.

What’s in the kitchen?

The kitchen has some grills, pot burners, tables, microwave, and some miscellaneous equipment. Yes you need to bring your own water and utensils. Please bring your own reusable plates, mugs, silverware to cut down on waste.

I’d like to DJ at Nipple Crime or on the SirKiss art car?

Please fill out the form under sign-ups and we will reach out to you. We do not pay our DJs - or pay for them to get to the playa. Our team will review your submission and get back to you. Our line-up is NOT published prior to the burn, as Burning Man is not a music festival.

I want to camp with Nipple Crime, but can’t make it to build prior to burn week. Or - I want to build!!

Just to clarify, pre-build prior to when gates open is NOT required to be part of camp. We are only allowed to have a small number of approved campers on playa by BurningManOrg.

How do you choose the build team?

Our build team is made up of our core team and special designated roles (design fabricator, electricians, sound team, build meal managers, and those who drive our trucks and bar materials to the playa from Reno.

We choose our build team based on skills, and an ability to work as a team, and how much effort they have contributed the year(s) prior on and off the playa. Build Week is a WORK week, not an easy way to get past the gates to start the party early.

Ten Principals

Radical Inclusion
Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.

Gifting
Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.

Decommodification
In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience.

Radical Self-reliance
Burning Man encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on their inner resources.

Radical Self-expression
Radical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient.

Communal Effort
Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction.

Civic Responsibility
We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state and federal laws.

Leaving No Trace
Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.

Participation
Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart.

Immediacy
Immediate experience is, in many ways, the most important touchstone of value in our culture. We seek to overcome barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our inner selves, the reality of those around us, participation in society, and contact with a natural world exceeding human powers. No idea can substitute for this experience.
